Original Concept art

Updated: Apr 3, 2021

Ten years ago, I sat in the second story of my rented apartment, staring outside at my little corner of Japan, and made some art! It was a little spot behind a grocery store, but it was weathered, aged, and full of a unique history all its own, and that living corner with all its cracks and growth and additions, add-ons, repairs, and faults, made me feel like drawing.

Ten years ago, when I had just a couple of pages written down and no real clear direction, I decided to draw what I thought of the world that would eventually turn into 232 pages. Below I've shared some of the original images I came up with. A lot has changed narratively, but I find it interesting to see some of the concepts that have stayed the same.

I like to think that I've gotten better at illustrating over the years, and hope to make some updates and improvements that I can share with you over the coming weeks. In the meantime, enjoy some original concept art!
